Welcome to the syllabus for the Mechanical Engineering in the Junior Engineering Examination conducted by SSC. The following subjects are the major part in Mechanical Engineering JE Examinations.

Subject -- Theory of Machines and Machine Design:
Concept of simple machine, Flywheels and fluctuation of energy, Four bar linkage and link motion, Power transmission by belts – V-belts and Flat belts, Gears – Type of gears, Clutches – Plate and Conical clutch, Governors – Principles and classification, Cams, Bearings, Riveted joint, Friction in collars and pivots.

Subject -- Engineering Mechanics and Strength of Materials:
Equilibrium of Forces, Friction, Law of motion, Concepts of stress and strain, Bending moments and shear force diagram, Elastic limit and elastic constants, Torsion of circular shafts, Stress in composite bars, Thin walled pressure vessels.

Subject -- Thermal Engineering:
Properties of Pure Substances : Introduction of steam table with respect to steam generation process; wet & superheated status, definition of saturation. Definition of dryness fraction of steam and degree of superheat of steam. H-S chart of steam.

  • 2nd Law of Thermodynamics
  • Air standard Cycles for IC engines
  • IC Engine Performance,
  • IC Engine Combustion,
  • IC Engine Cooling & Lubrication.
  • Hydraulic Turbines, Rankine cycle of steam, and
  • Hydraulic Turbines.

Subject -- Production Engineering:
Heat treatment of steel, Classification of Steels : mild steal & alloy steel Welding – Arc Welding, Resistance Welding, Gas Welding, Special Welding Techniques, Welding Defects & Testing; Foundry & Casting – methods, NDT, defects, Forging, Extrusion, different casting processes, etc.,
