Subject -- Surveying:
Measurement of distance, Principles of surveying, chain surveying, compass traversing, bearings, working of prismatic compass, local attraction, theodolite traversing, plane table surveying, adjustment of theodolite, and Leveling. Definition of terms used in contouring, leveling, refraction corrections and curvature, methods of contouring, temporary and permanent adjustments of dumpy level, tachometric survey, earth work calculation, curve setting, uses of contour map, advanced surveying equipment.

Subject -- Soil Mechanics:
Phase diagram, Origin of soil, Definitions- void ratio, degree of saturation, porosity, water content, unit weights, specific gravity of soil grains, density index and interrelationship of different parameters, Index properties of soils, Grain size distribution curves and their uses, Atterberg's limits, Permeability of soil,  ISI soil classification and plasticity chart, determination of coefficient of permeability, coefficient of permeability, Unconfined and confined aquifers, quick sand, effective stress, degree of consolidation, consolidation of soils, Principles of consolidation, pre-consolidation pressure, e-log p curve, normally consolidated soil, computation of ultimate settlement. Definition, Benefits, Necessity, III effects of irrigation, Methods and types of irrigation. Hydrology – run off coefficient, Measurement of rainfall, rain gauge, infiltration, losses from precipitation – evaporation, etc., Water requirement of crops, delta and base period, duty, Kharif and Rabi Crops, Time factor, Command area, Crop ratio, Irrigation efficiencies, Overlap allowance. Different type of canals, loss of water in canals, types of canal irrigation. Canal lining – types and advantages. Yield from a well, Shallow and deep to wells. Failure of weirs and permeable foundation, Weir and barrage, Slit and Scour, Lacey’s theory of uniform flow, Kennedy’s theory of critical velocity. Definition of flood, methods of flood control, causes and effects, preventive measures, water logging. Subject -- Transportation Engineering:
Highway Engineering –geometric design, cross sectional elements, types of pavements, pavement materials –different tests, aggregates and bitumen, Design of flexible and rigid pavements – Wet Mix Macadam (WMM) and Water Bound Macadam (WBM). Gravel Road, Rigid pavement joint, Bituminous construction, pavement maintenance, Railway Engineering – Highway drainage. ballast, Components of permanent way – sleepers, fixtures and fastening, points and crossings, track geometry, track junction, stations and yards. Traffic Engineering –speed-flow-density and their interrelationships, Different traffic survey, traffic signals, intersections and interchanges, traffic operation, road safety, traffic signs and markings.

Subject -- Environmental Engineering:

Quality of water, purification of water, source of water supply, distribution of water sewerage systems, need of sanitation, circular sewer, sewer appurtenances, oval sewer, sewage treatments. Solid waste management – effects, types, engineered management system. Surface water drainage. Air pollution – causes, control, pollutants, effects. Noise pollution –health effects, causes, control.
